THIS ACTUALLY SUPRISED ME

(+2)(-1)

Nouhidev after seeing fifty comments asking for a trigger warning on a psychological horror game:

(1 edit) (+3)(-2)

I mean i play all sorts of horror games and this is the first one to have caused me to have panic attack, like i loved the game all in all but I do feel there needs to be /somewhere/ (it doesnt need to be main screen or anything just somehwere) for a more specific warning. Because yeah I wouldve not played the game at this cuuren time. I dont think the creator meant harm at all btw, but theres a reason content warnings for movies say what the content its warning for is.

Does anyone else have the issue where everything apart from the DAY X screens and diary pages is incredibly pixelated? Is that the intention? Is there a setting where this can be changed?

(+1)

The pixelation is heavily based on your monitor's resolution. But I will fix that issue in the upcoming update!

(1 edit) (+5)(-11)

srsly please put a proper warning. As the user below me has stated, it's pretty fucked up to just avoid a proper warning for the sake of a twist.
EDIT: The dev has updated the warning to be more specific now, you guys can stop rubbing each other off now.(Would've been nice if the Dev replied or put a note so people wouldn't assume me and others can't read.)

(+5)(-5)

I am glad I was not the only one that realized this problem. It's fine to cover topics like this, but it needs a proper trigger warning besides the very vague one it has currently. Otherwise it isn't actually being helpful to victims, it's just putting yet another thing in their path they won't know to avoid until it triggers them.

(+7)(-2)

there is quite literally a disclaimer.

(+1)

The disclaimer was edited, my comment was made before the new, more specifically mentioned SA additions.

(+8)(-8)

First, as unbiased an opinion as I can give, this game is pretty good. You've nailed the atmosphere and it's very unsettling, and it keeps you wondering what's happening. However, I would not have engaged with this game if I had ANY idea it was about CSA (just randomly came across it). I'm a victim of CSA and always read TWs, and this game was heavily triggering and upsetting to me, and the only warning was 'disturbing content.' PLEASE consider putting a more specific warning, even if it is 'the content of this game contains some heavy triggers related to CSA, so if you are a survivor, this may not be a good game for you.' I have to say too, despite giving props to the game, if your biggest twist/spoiler is 'it was CSA/SA,' then you might want to reconsider how you've handled the subject matter. CSA/SA is not a good 'shocker twist' for a horror game, but it CAN be included in the story sensitively and well. Maybe a story where we get heavier inklings of what's happening, and have a clear ending where the victim escapes? A good ending for them (apologies if this is one of the endings, but I have no desire to find out for the sake of my MH).

That said, I also realize I don't know the dev, I have no idea what they may or may not have been through in life, but as someone with heavy traumas who is also a creator (I write books about some pretty dark stuff), survivors still have a responsibility to handle certain subjects carefully when putting them out there for the general public in stuff like games and art, even if that just means a heavy and informative content warning.

I hope the dev takes a lot of the constructive criticism here to heart, and they continue to make games.

At first i tried to find the ROBLOX one i couldent find it so i found this one and i had a great time with it i plan to go back for the second ending in the future

i know right?

I hope Markiplier's go at Your game gives You the boost that Your game rightfully deserves.

While the choice of topic is very sensitive, Your take on it is handled with due care. The sound design, visual effects and pacing also deserve a separate praise, I believe - they are thought provoking in their own right. Combined with a heavy hitter at the end - they certainly drive the point home.

Thank You for the experience.

(1 edit) (+1)

I had a problem with the screen ratio for some reason... Despite my screen being set to 16:9, the game opens as 4:3 and didn't had a configuration menu to adjust it.

Still, the game run normally and is playable, just a little pixelated because of the ratio.

(+2)

Very creepy and messed up. I can recommend

(-37)

you're gross for making a game like this. you honestly should be on a watchlist. there are people who are victims of shit like this and the fact that you just feel you have the authority to make a game about rape, presumably of a child, is repulsive. i don't know how people aren't seeing through this, you're fucking disgusting.

(+22)

i think it's to spread awareness, dude

also the person who made this could be a victim themself, you never know, so don't just assume

(+1)(-3)

it's definitely fine to spread awareness/use these topics to express feeling about the subject, etc. but this game also needs a proper warning about the content. some people do not want anything to do with consuming content with this subject matter if it triggers them or makes them uncomfortable. that's my problem with this game. not the actual subject matter, just the fact there are no real warnings on it before playing.

(+19)

Games are a form of artistic expression. I think your commentary is undeserved and misdirected.

As a survivor of non-contact csa and grooming I write things like this to cope and process what I went through. My personal complaint is that this should have a more specific trigger warning for the sake of people who will get triggered by media like this.

Play Doki Doki Literature Club and get back to us. If you thought this was heavy...

Sounds like you’ll be shocked that children can and have gotten raped irl

(+7)(-1)

Fucked up and really well made, thank you for this game!

(+9)(-1)

Saw Markiplier made a video about this and after hearing what he said in the begining I decided to play it before watching his video.

Very well done, I got a real sense of dread in the pit of my stomach at times. Only played through once but will be playing again to see the other ending.

(1 edit) (+2)(-1)

Beautiful and super fucked up.

(+1)

Any chance for a Linux AppImage port?

(-1)

Man when i didn't took the pill and saw what happened i was so shocked too see that our dad was doing some bad stuff to us when we were sleeping. Damn what a dark story

(+1)

you readded the download oh am i dreaming

one of the most anxious experiences ive had in a game

(+3)(-1)

I've never left a review on a game before but this f*cked me up good. Beautiful game design, pacing, storytelling. WOWOWOW! This was incredible. Great job!

(-1)

I know right? The ending was interesting, and like you said, BEAUTIFUL design! Loved it!

dude this is scarier than most of the horror games.. especially how the fact it can actually happen to someone

played this in a call with a friend and we both got surprised by that ending (the no taking pills one), what a great phsycological horror game

(+1)

Just wanna say that even though it's not entirely based on the Josef Fritzl case, it was inspired by it as the creator has stated. I do want to express how I love this game and how it was easy for children on Roblox to access it and play it. Children aren't as innocent as we make them to be, they understand things better than us. So having that easy access to this game on Roblox would've helped them understand the world, maybe it might've happened to other kids but they never really connected the dots. But hey, I'm not arguing that the game on Roblox was taken down by you, you're really talented to even make a game like, it's really cool and subtly dark. It does so well with giving us hints and clues to put together what is really happening. (I haven't played any version of this game yet)

(+2)

It's difficult to say. I believe children deserve to be challenged by difficult topics to develop their understanding of the world.
At the same time, it is a very difficult thing to balance this day and age..

what the fuck is wrong with you

uh? What did I say wrong?

do you really think its appropriate for children to be encouraged to play a game about drugging and rape? kids on roblox are way too young to be forced into learning about that stuff, it would petrify them. maybe if it was exclusive to 13+ or 17+ it would be fine but just out on roblox for actual children to play?

I find it fine. Because at this point, kids should know that this shit could happen to them- I’m not saying that cause this game exists, they should play it- like they can get traumatized from that- but if they stumble upon it, your own choice. And through that choice, they can learn.

(-2)

just played this and wanted to throw up due how disturbing it is oh my god.

(-1)

It sucks i can't play this due to microsoft removing the download feature for the xbox i found out how unsettling the game actually is and it's just sad how i can't play it because of microsoft.

Is the game based on the Fritzl Case?

inspired

(+3)

i can't open the game

What is the explanation of the game? I haven't played it yet though i'm curious

(-1)

Basically in  short ur father was giving u some sort of drugs to not awake u at night (the pills) And he was raping u every night so and lied about the monsters so he can keep u trapped in the basement and yeah the game itself is traumatizing and disturbing not even scary

(+3)(-3)

I have played the real game and the game on roblox. This was extremely disturbing and I didn't really see it as scary. I don't really like the fact that it doesnt have a content warning for CSA because it might actually trigger someone who has that trauma(like me). But it's a great game quality wise and story wise just wished there was a more direct content warning.

This is the og game??

(+1)

Isn't there a screen when you launch the game that warns you of the content?

(+2)(-1)

i feel so bad, imagine someone stealing your game and putting it on Roblox and getting thousands of dollars and all the credit

(+2)

I believe they had permission to port it onto Roblox

They had permission, but... well read the doc https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DzolnN1mwAYX7nGLLRAbcC8hkVJd17Oo9KBQqlSomrY/...

(-1)

this is the best horror game i've ever played in my life.

(+2)

Oh my god. One of the most unsettling games I've played.

(1 edit) (+1)

I've never been so shocked. I was reading the doc because I was a bit confused about the nightmares. I came up with a different interpretation. In the second one, you can see a large figure that resembles a human. It's big, has four legs, and is very dark. That creature could represent the papa when he's doing his stuff. I found it fascinating how the nightmares have such a raw meaning. It's a pretty scary game overall.

I liked it.

I'm kinda late to this discourse, but here's my two cents:

First, you nailed the general atmosphere of the game. The fuzzy sound effects and the child's small stature convey that she's still developing as an organism. The days, by taking so long to complete, show the effects of her isolation. The shower task being called "Wash yourself." is the line I find most telling, since my family typically uses "take a bath/shower" for cleaning your own person, and "wash" for your hands or dishes, mere extensions of your being.

Now, I would criticize the child's surprisingly strong understanding of language or the fact that she doesn't instinctively avert her eyes from the Sun, but not only am I unsure exactly how old she's meant to be, but those don't detract from the atmosphere too much.

For the most part, I don't think you took the subject matter seriously enough. You largely reduced the brunt of them to a mere "spooky Wham Line" in each ending; the reason why people think you're glorifying such horrible topics is because the narrative's efforts at horror (basically the genre for people who like being scared) unintentionally do so. The part where the child pretends to sleep is the only scene that successfully shows how ugly her situation is. (Nicky Case's review of the 2019 film Joker helped me understand how not to glorify violence and/or similar topics.)

Personally... I don't find the story sad or scary, only ugly. I don't really see what I have to gain from this experience, since it's rare for people to enjoy being disgusted. Disgust is a pretty powerful, primal defense mechanism. Looking back, I just feel like I took a sip of spoiled milk and wondered if someone spiked it with banana juice.

If you insist on keeping the specific subject matter as the kind of surprise it is, you should probably update your disclaimer, to state that if the viewer has any (I mean any) common triggers, they must either ask a friend whether the spoilers are harmful to them, or not take a chance with the game at all.

This game is dope! I’m really intrigued of the story, of which I wanted to write a narrative of it. do I have your permission to do that?

spooky

(+3)

could have had potential, but i feel it is incredible insensitive towards this very serious topic. also just kind of slow and boring to get through, not really worth getting through again to see the other ending.

There is a glitch in the game thing where you literally can just hop outta the borders, so there is that. A save feature would be really cool as the game progresses real slow. But it's a cool game!

could you please describe the bug further?

You know the little gaming thing idk what the name was. When the stage starts you can go straight to up and you can just get out of the border. It's not very important but eh.

(2 edits) (-1)

i played through this as my friend recommended it to me because i play a lot of horror games on itch.io, and...eh? i don't really see the appeal..great in concept absolutely! i love a setting like that in horror..but honestly the game is just so, so slow to go through- i never felt any tension throughout the game and there was just nothing to keep me in it..some may call it slow burn, but to me i just felt no burn at all

BUT, i'd say that's all for if you're going for both endings, it is not worth it to trudge through the game for both endings, i'd say go for only the good ending (not taking the pills), as it was way more interesting and fun, plus the dream for that ending actually gave me some of that itch.io horror anxiety i was looking for! the bad ending is just way too vague, and as i went for that one first, i was just confused until i had my friend explain it..and then i was just uncomfortable-

i am excited for what the dev has next in store, but this game..it is a first attempt at psychological horror, and it really shows, but the good ending i'd say is worth a playthrough if you've an extra 45 minutes!

bonus: there's a glitch in the freerunner minigame where if you get hit by an enemy under certain circumstances (i'm unsure what the circumstances are, but it's pretty lenient), you can move out of bounds of the kidpad and beat every single level for free (however you're unable to replay freerunner once you've beaten it, you'd have to reset the game)

Great game, very scary though..
